Self Publication Workshop:

Mechanics – Larry Norton

The toolbox of required components for delivery of your book to market. Manuscript preparation, editing, book file

design and creation (ebook and print), proofing, cover, metadata, printing, distribution, wholesalers, retailers, pre-and

post-publication date planning, marketing basics. How to build or buy the components of publication and do it in a

thoroughly professional manner.

Handsales – Blake Hausladen

How do you sell a book to a strangers? What types of venues and locations provide the best opportunity? What do you

need to close the deal and make a profit while doing it? Bring several copies of your books. You are not leaving the room

until you sell them.

Online Distribution – Tawn Krakowski

How do you sell books online? What online retail outlets offer the best services for self-publication? What is an author

platform and why do I need one?  We will be examining the available social media options for promoting self-published

work, their benefits and drawbacks, what costs are involved, and how to put them into practice.  Learn how to build an

author platform, manage social media interactions and promotions effectively, and connect with current and potential

The Economics of Self-Publication – Blake Hausladen

From production costs, to contracts, to sales tax, to fundraising. If you want to self-publish, there is an inventory of math

problems you are signing yourself up for, and each decision you make with those numbers will affect the likelihood of

the effort being profitable. The cost of print production is one of the largest barriers. Investing your own funds adds

unwelcome risks. A number of fundraising avenues exist, Kickstarter amongst them. What does a successful campaign

look like? How do you determine if a project is right for crowdsourcing?
